During your time on the course you will be spending half of your time in the clinical area and the other half in the University. We maintain strong links with our partner trusts who provide excellent placements for you to attend, both in the community and maternity unit settings and our aim is to provide all students with the same number and type of placements over the duration of the course; although the facilities differ to some degree within each unit. Whilst on placement you will meet and care for women and their families from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures and you will learn how to provide individualised care for these women. Much of what you learn will be taught by your allocated mentors within the clinical area and they will be asked to assess your progress too.

On the site there are links to what I hope useful information to you, including access to your clinical placements and also information about the areas you are going to via the directory. In addition, you can also find information regarding Supervision of Midwives, mentorship and your documentation. There will also be a link to enable you to evaluate the placements you attend.

If you have any issues or problems regarding placements or mentorship then please get in touch – email is best. If I am not available then contact my admin support on 0121 331 6190 or contact your personal tutor.

I hope that you enjoy your time with us at BCU.

Good Luck
Alison
